Nothing is more important than getting to the heart of behavior, because only in the heart can true change occur. This series has been instrumental in teaching me how to see beyond the immediate behavioral issues and deeper into the needs of my children’s hearts. Practical, clearly taught and Biblical, this series is fantastic at every level. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

As a pastor I am constantly recommending Shepherding a Child’s Heart. I haven’t read everything on parenting, but I tell people if you are going to read one book on parenting it should be this one. The chief problem for children is the same as for adults: sin. And the only solution to sin is the Gospel of Christ. Tripp does a great job at helping the parent see how to raise their children in a Gospel centered way. The parent of a child is a God ordained partner with the Holy Spirit in the life of the child. Tripp helps us to see how too often we are an opponent of the Holy Spirit rather than a partner and how to exhort/discipline/teach/etc in such a way that is consistent with God and his message of redemption.
The videos are a great resource for small groups too. I’ve led three groups through it and am about to start my fourth. Really good stuff.
