countdownfeature.jpgI’ve always had a huge interest in movies. Not only watching them, but the technology that goes into making them. I thoroughly enjoy the filmaking aspect of movies. It’s always amazing to see something that started out as just a thought brought into something magical on the screen.

When software became affordable, I quickly jumped into learning how editing and special effects were done. I became a pro hobbyist. I purchased a DV-Cam, a great video card, video capture software, DVD burners and the editing and effects software I needed. I studied all of the good websites and got my hands on every tutorial I could find.

Now that I have my own home theater I thought it would be great, like many other home theater owners, to have my own custom intro. Just like the movies. Imagine, the 3d roller coaster swooping by the big tub of popcorn and huge soda cup and end up in front of a sign that said my home theater name.(All Home Theater owners name their theater).

One of the popular topics that have always come up in home theater forums is how to make these intros and buy them. I’ve seen plenty of really bad ones and some really good ones. So I decided to try my hand at something different. I’ve seen a lot of requests for a CountDown style intro that would countdown until movie time. After a few weeks of work I created the CountDown DVD.

The DVD runs for 25 minutes and can be started at chapters counting down from 25, 20, 15, 10,5,2 and 1 minutes. The Countdown time is always displayed in the lower corner of the screen and at each chapter is displayed prominately with a voice queue announcing the time remaining.

I didn’t want the countdown DVD to require you to watch it for 25 minutes, so it’s a series of high quality, subtle motion graphics that are switch every 2 minutes witin a 3d Stage environment. To really enhance the DVD, I added 2 cinematic music themes in addition to the 5.1 surround sound effects. If you prefer to turn the music off you can and only hear the voice queues and sound effects there’s an option for that too.

Finally, the last 30 seconds are a “Feature Presentation” intro that gets everyone prepared for the movie event. A short trailer of the DVD is available at http://www.inflixht.com. I’ll be putting together some more intros in the very near future.
